Prior to surgery our veterinarian will perform a comprehensive exam to ensure your pet's overall health and well-being. Since spays and neuters require anesthesia, pre-anesthetic blood work is recommended to evaluate liver and kidney function that could complicate the procedure. The veterinarian also use these results to calculate medications specific to your pet's individual needs. During surgery, the reproductive organs will be carefully removed through a strategically placed incision. The incision will then be closed with absorbable sutures reinforced with tissue glue and / or surgical staples.
Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and purulent discharge (pus). The most effective treatment for pyometra is surgery to remove the uterus and ovaries, also known as a spay or ovariohysterectomy.
Our veterinarian will conduct a thorough oral exam of your pet to check for any abnormalities or signs of periodontal / dental disease. To assure all four sides of every tooth as well as the gum line are cleaned, the pet will require anesthesia.
(Non-anesthetic dentals are NOT recommended as only one side of the tooth can be seen. Non-anesthetic dentals commonly give the owner a false sense of security while leaving 3/4 of the problem still bothering the pet.)
Prior to anesthetic administration pre-anesthetic blood work is recommended to evaluate liver and kidney function that could complicate the procedure. The veterinarian also uses these results to calculate medications specific to your pet's individual needs. While your pet is under anesthesia, our veterinarian and surgical technicians will perform a complete examination, including periodontal probing, hand scaling and ultrasonic scaling of the teeth. If any abnormalities are found, extractions may be necessary. The teeth will be polished then the procedure will conclude with an application of fluoride.
Our veterinarian will conduct a thorough exam to assess your pet's overall health and well-being, including measuring any masses to determine it's size. Based on this evaluation, we will discuss whether removal of the mass is recommended. If removal is necessary, pre-anesthetic blood work is recommended to evaluate liver and kidney function that could complicate the procedure. The veterinarian also uses these results to calculate medications specific to your pet's individual needs. While your pet is under anesthesia, the surgical team will make incisions near the mass, using the area with the loosest skin for easier removal with a scalpel and other surgical instruments. After removing the mass, the area will be closed with absorbable sutures reinforced with skin glue and / or staples. We also recommend sending the mass to our reference lab for biopsy to determine if post operative steps can be taken to prevent recurrence.
Our veterinarian will conduct a thorough examination to assess your pet’s overall health and well-being. This will include radiographs (X-rays) to identify location of the bladder stones, if any appear to also be in the urethra and sending a urinalysis to our reference lab for further evaluation. Since a cystotomy requires anesthesia, pre-anesthetic blood work is performed to evaluate liver and kidney function that could complicate the procedure. The veterinarian also use these results to calculate medications specific to your pet's individual needs. During the surgery, an incision is made thru the skin and the abdominal wall. The bladder is then accessed and the stones are removed. Both the bladder and the urethra will be flushed to ensure all stones are cleared. Finally, the incisions will be closed with sutures, and another radiograph (X-ray) will be taken to confirm that all bladder stones have been successfully removed. The bladder stones will be submitted to our reference lab so that the bladder stone type can be identified. This information is used to tailor a diet for your pet to prevent recurrence.
