A pet wellness exam is a physical exam done by our veterinarian, typically once a year. During a wellness exam, our veterinarian will assess your pet's overall health with both visual and physical exams.
For pets who are 6 years and younger, wellness exams are recommended at least once a year. Because pets age much quicker than humans, wellness exams are recommended at least twice a year for pets over 6 years of age with the goal to screen for any signs of illness or disease.
Vaccinations are administered during a wellness Exam by our veterinarian.
Vaccines can prevent many diseases that are common in the pet's environment. Some of the diseases that vaccinations are trying to prevent can be spread between animals and people, other diseases can be fatal.
Weight management is crucial for maintaining your pet’s overall health. Like humans, pets can develop serious conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Our veterinarian will design a personalized program tailored to your pet’s lifestyle to help manage their weight effectively.
If your pet is experiencing acute pain, our goal is to manage it promptly and effectively to prevent it from becoming chronic. For pets with existing chronic pain, our veterinarian will create a customized pain management plan tailored to your pet’s unique needs and medical conditions.
Animals, like humans, can have allergic reactions to various factors such as environmental elements, foods, insect bites, etc.
Our veterinarian can create a individually tailored treatment plan for your pet.
The Sonoran Desert has Coccidioidomycosis fungal spores in the topsoil. Dogs and cats inhale these spores and in some cases become ill. Valley Fever can cause various clinical signs including but not limited to: limping, coughing, inappetence, weight loss, personality changes, and seizures. Most pets only have one clinical sign. Our veterinarian will help you navigate diagnostic and treatment options.
Diagnostic tests are a very important tool used to identify why your pet may be feeling poorly. Caring Critters Animal Hospital performs in-house: X-rays, bloodwork, ear cytology, skin scrapes, ringworm fungal tests, as well as sending samples to the reference laboratory.
Fleas and Ticks can transmit infections and diseases to our loving pets with just one bite. It is crucial for pet owners to prevent these parasites by using one of the many effective commercial products designed to protect pets from fleas and ticks.
Our flea and tick prevention products also provide added benefits, including protection against internal parasites and some can also prevent heartworm.
Did you know that one in three pets goes missing each year? That's approximately 10 million pets in the U.S. alone.
One of the best ways to help prevent loosing your pet is getting them microchipped.
Our clinic implants HomeAgain microchips, roughly the size of a Tic Tac, which contain encoded information about you and your pet. These microchips are usually placed under the skin between the shoulder blades.
If your pet goes missing, veterinary hospitals and animal shelters can use a special scanner to access the information, facilitating a reunion between you and your pet.
Deciding to euthanize a beloved pet is one of the most difficult choices a pet owner can face. Our staff understands that end-of-life decisions are incredibly challenging.
In some cases, a full recovery or comfortable life may not be feasible for sick, injured, or elderly pets. As their caretakers, we have a responsibility to consider options for alleviating their suffering. Our veterinarian will work with you to discuss the process and evaluate whether euthanasia is appropriate, along with determining the best timing for it.
At Caring Critters Animal Hospital, Dr. Zimmerman performs a pre-operative exam then discusses surgical options as well as anesthetic and / or surgical risks for the individual patient. Together, with her owners, it is determined if surgery is the appropriate next step.
During these appointments technicians can trim nails, express anal glands, shave matts / lion-cuts, draw blood, and run bloodwork.
